Project Description
The Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit will create a new modern facility that supports healing and recovery; meeting both the physical and psychosocial needs of its users whilst providing a safe and positive environment for staff.
A new model of care has been developed and this is reflected within the courtyard building design. Two wings of 38 beds provide a 76-inpatient facility based on a decentralised staffing model. The courtyard model provides an abundance of natural light, good passive staff observation, as well as secure access to a variety of outside spaces for service users to engage in. A step change in Mental Health delivery in New Zealand.
Precon’s role
Precon provided Design and Project Management services. Key issues addressed were the establishment and implementation of project staging strategies to ensure continuity of service delivery, and construction sequencing within a busy operating hospital campus.
