We have developed a simple Work Sequence Planning approach to the design process that provides a framework or roadmap for the design process. This framework draws on Warren Hollings’ Picture Planning technique and presents a clear and easily-understood project programme.
During Concept Design when initial massing of buildings and general arrangement planning are known, and structural concepts are being explored, we develop an initial construction programme in “picture plan” format.
Our programmes incorporate procurement options, buildability reviews and initial consenting strategies. These considerations reveal the necessary sequencing and enable a clear understanding of the critical path. Together with the Work Sequence Planning of the design process, this informs the overall project programme – a key input into the Business Case and approvals process.
