Project Description
The Wynyard Street Redevelopment project includes a significant upgrade of landscaping and surfaces along Wynyard Street. This will improve pedestrian amenity and pedestrian linkages on campus and provide a space which offers opportunities for recreation and connection within the campus.
By removing all traditional vehicle infrastructure from the current condition, this allows the University to use Wynyard St as a key public space within Sector 200. The space will be pedestrian focussed and vehicles are visitors with their movement area defined to a ‘vehicle zone’.
Along the pedestrian link, the landscape is revealed through a series of planted ‘lungs’ which are lower than the surrounding ground plane. These will be planted with natives, stepping stones and more intimate pathways for playful movement
The proposed arrangement at the entrance of Alten Rd gives mana back to the entrance to Waipapa Marae. The space features a new landscaped whakaeke space with shelter and seating for manuhiri.
