Project Description
The Tōtara Haumaru project will provide Waitematā District Health Board with the infrastructure to increase elective capacity, inpatient beds, and support services to meet ever-increasing demand. The new four-storey building will be located adjacent to the existing Elective Surgery Centre (ESC) and linked by a sky bridge to the existing hospital facilities.
The ground floor will house a surgical suite including a pre-operative theatre, eight operating theatres, a post anesthetic care unit (PACU), associated support and staff areas, as well as facility wide change and teaching facilities. Level one will house the endoscopy suite including
procedure rooms and pre and post-procedure care areas. 150 inpatient beds will be provided across five wards. The design also incorporates an inward-looking landscaped courtyard to promote patient wellness.
Precon’s Role
Precon are facilitating a staged procurement approach to enable early construction start, assisting with enabling works streams, employing early contractor involvement, and early introduction of critical path trades. These strategies are key to delivering an Importance Level 4 building within a tight time frame and with a limited budget.
