Project Description

The New Learning Communities Consortium Proposal for the Schools 3 Public Private Partnership (PPP) Project for the Ministry of Education (MoE) included bringing together two existing Christchurch high schools to one site at Queen Elizabeth II Park. The existing schools were both badly damaged during the 2011-12 earthquake events. The design reflected and supported the requirement for each school to maintain strong individual identity whilst benefiting from the co-location opportunity.

The project accommodated 2,200 students within three buildings; the Teaching Block, Gymnasium and Performing Arts Building. The campus had a significant community presence; the Performing Arts Building was designed to operate as a standalone facility to engage with the community even outside of regular teaching hours. The new school was to be a major milestone in the regeneration of the eastern suburbs of Christchurch.
