Project Description

The New Learning Communities Consortium Proposal for the Schools 3 Public Private Partnership (PPP) Project for the Ministry of Education (MoE) included bringing together two existing Christchurch high schools to one site at QEII Park. The existing schools were both badly damaged during the 2011-12 earthquake events. The design reflects and supports the requirement for each school to maintain strong individual identity whilst benefiting from the co-location opportunity.

The project accommodates 2200 students within three buildings; the Teaching Block, Gymnasium and Performing Arts Building. The campus has a significant community presence; the Performing Arts Building was designed to operate as a standalone facility engaging with the community even outside of regular teaching hours and the new school was to be a major milestone in the regeneration of the eastern suburbs of Christchurch.
