Project Description

Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) has established the Plant Health & Environment Capability (PHEC) programme to protect the NZ environment, flora and horticulture against unwanted plants, and environment pests and diseases.

The project involves the construction a new PHEC facility at the existing Plant and Food Research site at Mount Albert, replacing their current facility in Mount Wellington. The core capabilities of the facility are PC2 and PC3 containment laboratories and post entry quarantine (PEQ) greenhouses, facilities/areas for Biosecurity Surveillance and Incursion Investigation Plant Health work.

The development includes workspace, meeting rooms, end of journey facilities, PC2 and PC3 laboratories, grow rooms, greenhouses, and spaces for supporting plant.

Precon’s role

Precon were engaged at the end of Preliminary Design to provide comprehensive project management services, inclusive of design management, subcontractor procurement, and contract administration.

Precon is working alongside MPI, Rau Paenga and the appointed Design Consultants and Main Contractor to deliver this important project for New Zealand’s biodiversity.
